Appearances
Check out some of my greatest hits.
SXSW 2019
Back like I never left. I had the honor of co-hosting SXSW’s official Podcast Meetup with my partner-in-crime, tech superstar Espree Devora of Women in Tech. Big things.
OSCARS 2019
I guess it’s time to update my bucket list. I held it down on the red carpet and in the press room, knocking out celebrity interviews and delivering extraordinary coverage as only I can. That’s kind of a big deal, I suppose.
YOUTUBE SPACE LA
I joined Anna Faris is Unqualified co-host Sim Sarna, Girl in Space host Sarah Werner, Western Sound founder Ben Adair, and Charlie Rocket Show host Charlie 'Rocket' Jabaley to discuss how storytelling and structure apply to podcasting. This panel was presented by Simplecast.
BLACK HISTORY MONTH
FEATURE IN TUNEIN
You can’t call it a dynasty until you three-peat, right? Shoutout to my family at TuneIn for once again featuring The Extraordinary Negroes during Black History Month.
WEWORK BLACK ENTREPRENEUR SERIES
I was invited to speak at WeWork as a part of their Black Entrepreneur panel series, all while wearing a Harriet Tubman t-shirt. Good times.
NPR
I appeared on NPR’s On Point and provided some insight and commentary on a number of important issues regarding politics, society, and pop culture.
MSNBC
I did the damn thing on MSNBC Live and discussed Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s refusal to resign after his racist ass yearbook photo from 1984 surfaced. Because, yeah… America.
UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
I was a featured speaker during USC’s two-day event The Power and Pleasure of Podcasting, which served to explore how this rapidly evolving format resonates with audiences that are underserved by traditional media.
BLACK HISTORY MONTH ITUNES FEATURE
Once again it’s on. For the 3rd year in a row The Extraordinary Negroes was featured during iTunes’ Black History Month campaign. Not quite reparations, but it’s a step in the right direction.
KPCC
I got my Anthony Bourdain on and discussed the history and cultural influence of soul food in America on KPCC’s Take Two with A. Martinez, which was recorded at one of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles, My Two Cents.
And my picks for the best soul food in Los Angeles are official too.
AN EXTRAORDINARY EVENING: FOR PODCASTER OF COLOR
I organized a night of food, fun, and fellowship for podcasters of color to celebrate our invaluable contributions to the podcast medium with 200 attendees. But even outside of all the fun, it served as the impetus for the much needed wholesale changes that are necessary to achieve equitable treatment within the podcasting industry.
LA SPEAKS: ON THE EVOLUTION OF THE ARTIST
I was a featured panelist at LA Speaks: On The Evolution of the Artist, which explored the evolution of creative expression in Los Angeles. It also allowed attendees to listen and engage in inspirational keynotes, interactive workshops, and insightful panel discussions with both emerging and established creatives. Pretty dope shit.
THE LAURA COATES SHOW
I was a special guest on The Laura Coates Show on Sirius XM and discussed the emotional labor that people of color subject themselves to when we attempt to educate White audiences on our plight, my work in entertainment, and the predatory behavior of the entertainment industry; of which I wrote about for Huffington Post.
OUTLIER PODCAST FESTIVAL
I was a featured speaker at the Outlier Podcast Festival, which features speakers, workshops, breakout sessions, live shows and more. My topic of discussion? Inclusion and diversity within this medium.
START, SUSTAIN, AND GET PAID FOR YOUR PODCAST
I was a featured speaker and shared some of the science behind the creation of The Extraordinary Negroes, how I got started in the podcast industry, and best practices for expansion, digital strategy, and monetization.
THE PODLIST
The Extraordinary Negroes was featured in The Podlist, a weekly collection of some of the best podcasts published each week. Cue obligatory confetti toss. Check it out here.
PODCASTS IN COLOR
The Extraordinary Negroes was featured on Podcasts In Color's list of Five Black Panther Podcasts Under An Hour.
A CREATIVE SOCIAL MIXER
In order to foster a community of color around our respective crafts, I partnered with the big homie Elton Anderson of Creators of Color for a social mixer specifically for creatives. This included a panel discussing our experiences as creators of color, food and drinks, and more melanin and graceful aging than legally allowed. The best of times were had by all.
